Catherine was shown in the 1850 census (Oct 2 1850), still living at home with her widowed mother and siblings in Madison County, Iowa:5

Catharine Henshaw, age 32, born in Ohio.

She married Adam Surber III, after Mar 7 1851, probably in Warren County, Iowa.1,2  Adam, son of Adam Surber, Jr. & Ruth Hubble6,8,9, was born Feb 12 18126,8,9 [Feb 6 181210,11], Washington County, Virginia6,8,9.  

Adam was originally from Virginia, had moved to Indiana, and then finally to Warren County, Iowa, where he had a farm north of Indianola, Iowa.2  This was Adam's second marriage - he had previously been married to Elizabeth Harrell who had died Mar 7 1851.2,9,12  

Adam and Elizabeth had been original members of the North River Christian Church, north of Indianola, Iowa.2

Elias Bryant Surber, born c1854, Iowa; married Nancy C. Philips.
Anna Eliza [Eliza Ann/Anne] Surber, born c1855, Iowa; married William C. Bishop, Nov 2 1870, Warren County, Iowa. 14
John William Surber, born Nov 4 1856, Iowa; died Nov 6 1913; married Dec 2 1883, Harriet Rilla "Hattie" Phillips. 8,15

Adam Surber was shown in the 1852 Iowa state census, Greenfield Township, Polk County, Iowa (page 007),16 and again in the 1853 Iowa state census, Greenfield Township, Warren County, Iowa.17  

Catherine and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jun 5 1860), Greenfield Township, Warren County, Iowa, with Catherine's sister Rebecca living in their household:6

Adam Surber, age 48, born in Virginia; farmer; $1000 real estate; $300 personal property.
Catharine Surber, age 42, born in Ohio.
Augustus Surber, age 15, born in Indiana; attended school.
Isaac B. Surber, age 13, born in Indiana; attended school.
Francis M. Surber, age 11, born in Iowa; attended school.
Elias P. [middle initial unclear] Surber, age 6, born in Iowa.
Eliza Ann Surber, age 5, born in Iowa.
John W. Surber, age 3, born in Iowa.
Rebecca R. Henshaw, age 26, born in Indiana; cannot read or write.
Isaac Wright, age 24, born in Ohio; saw miller; $500 personal property.

Catherine and family were shown in the 1870 census (Jul 11 1870), Jackson Township, Warren County, Iowa (page 338).13  

Surber, Adam, age 58, born in Virginia; farmer; $1500 real estate; $900 personal property.
Surber, Catharine, age 52, born in Ohio; keeping house.
Surber, Elias, age 16, born in Iowa.
Surber, Eliza, age 15, born in Iowa.
Surber, John age 13, born in Iowa.

Adam died Jan 12 1877, Indianola, Warren County, Iowa; age 64y 11m 6d.1,2,9,11,18,19  

Catherine Hinshaw died Mar 13 1878, Warren County, Iowa; age 59y 11m 21d.2,7,9,18,20  

Catherine and Adam are buried next to Adam's first wife Eliza.2  

Catherine committed suicide with an overdose of morphine.  Her death was reported on Mar 21 1878 in the "Warrent County Record":7,21

Surber, Mrs. Catherine, living 4 miles southwest of St. Marys died 13 March 1878 from an overdose of morphine administered by her own hands.  She was 60 years old.
