James was shown age 7 in the 1880 census, Jackson County, Alabama.6,7  

It is thought that James grew up in an orphanage in Texas and returned to Jackson County, Alabama, as an adult.6  

He married Nannie Morris, about 1899.9  Nannie, daughter of Calvin T. Morris & Eliza Jane (Gifford) Yates, was born Jun 28 1882, Tennessee.9,10,11  Nannie was the sister of Charles Morris who married cousin Eliza Hinshaw, as well as the sister of Edward Morris who married cousin Mary Susan Hinshaw.  

James and Nannie were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 20 1900), living with Nannie's parents in Franklin County, Tennessee:9

Nannie died Mar 10 1901, buried unnamed cemetery, Gray's Chapel, Jackson County, Alabama.10  

He then married Sarah Rouse1,4 [Sallie A. Rouse3,8, Sally Rouse2, Susie Rouse10], about 19011,4.  Sarah was born Feb 15 1885, Alabama.1,3,4,8,9  Note that Sarah was a niece of James' first wife, Nannie Morris, and had been living with James & Nannie in Nannie's parents' household in 1900.9

Sarah died Jan 21 1954, buried Cedar Hill Cemetery, Jackson County, Alabama.8  

James Anderson Hinshaw died Feb 17 1962, buried Cedar Hill Cemetery, Jackson County, Alabama.8
