John's obituary was published in "The Day" (New London, Connecticut) on Saturday, January 16 1999 (added commentary shown in [brackets]):1
Mr Hinshaw was a graduate of Northwestern University, and was founder of the Chatham Press [Old Greenwich, CT and Chatham, MA] in the 1960s. He worked for Union Services Mutual Fund as a computer programmer in the 1970s. He retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in 1988.
He was treasurer of the Stonington Historical Society [1996-1999], a volunteer guide at Mystic Seaport, and a member of Calvary Church [Stonington].
In addition to his wife, Natalie Jones, he is survived by a son, John Hinshaw; two daughters, Helen Crary and Julia Williamson; a brother, William Hinshaw; his three stepchildren [by Natalie], Stev, Edward, and Amy Spencer. [and seven grandchildren].
The funeral services are being held this Friday in Stonington CT at the Calvary church, 11:00 AM EST. Contributions in his name may be made to the Stonington Historical Society, P.O. Box 103, Stonington, CT 06378.
