Born about 1491.3
He married Anne Hart, 1510.2,3 (1520/21).5 Anne, daughter of John Hart & Elizabeth Peache, was born 1491, Lullingstone, Kent, England.2,3
Anne had been previously married to Edmund Talbot,5,6 by whom she had a son, (Sir) Thomas Talbot (1517-1558).5 Anne was neice of the well known Sir John Peach (1473-1522) who was a close personal friend of Henry VIII and a well known jouster and soldier. Anne's brother, Sir Percival Hart (1496-1580) was a Knight Harbinger and entertained Queen Elizabeth 1st at his manor of Bark Hart near Orpington. He was also close to Henry VIII who stood godfather at his sons chrsitening.5

George Stanley, born about 1522; married Isabel Duckinfield.
Edward Stanley, born about 1526.
Thomas Stanley, born about 1528.
Jane Stanley, born about 1530; married George Astley.
Ann Stanley, born c1531; married (against her will) to John Rishton of Pontalgh.

Eleanor Helen Stanley, born about 1536; died 1579; married Gilbert Langtree.
Sir James Stanley led a detachment of troops in the army of his nephew, the 3rd Earl, during the rebellion of 1536, as did Thomas Talbot (Anne's son by her first marriage), who was Sir James' ward.5
Anne died 1566, buried Blackburn Parish Church.5
Sir James Stanley's exact date of death is unknown. He was living as late as 1545 when he was steward of Burscough Priory.5
