Born May 21 18631,2,3 [May 22 18634], Holly Spring, North Carolina1,2,3.
Jonathan was named after his mother's elder brother, Jonathan Barker, with whom she had been very close, who died while away at school in 1850.3
Jonathan was born during the time his father, Thomas, was being taken toward the fateful Gettysburg, essentially a prisoner in the Confederate Army. Jonathan's mother, Mary, under a great burden of anxiety and grief, and under the stress of caring for two other small children, was totally unable to feed the fragile little baby. Cow's milk did not suffice, and Jonathan lived just three weeks, a tiny casualty of the Civil War.3,5
Jonathan B. Hinshaw died Jun 11 1863, Holly Spring, North Carolina; buried Holly Spring Friends Cemetery, Ramseur, Randolph County, North Carolina.1,2,3,4
