Pizariah Napoleon Hanshaw died Jan 27 1942, Staats Hospital, 123 W. Washington St., Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia; age 72y 7m 15d.10,12,13 Medical: Poley died from cerebral thrombosis, due to cerebral arteriosclerosis.13 The informant for Poley's death certificate was son Clark.13
Poley's obituary was published in the "Charleston Gazette" (Charleston, West Virginia) on Wednesday, January 28, 1942:21
Poley Hanshaw
Poley Hanshaw, 72, of Ovapa, Clay county, died yesterday in a Charleston hospital after an illness of two days.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow at Bethel M. E. church, with Rev. Guy Hardman officiating.
Burial will be in the Phillips cemetery with the Hardman and Hardman mortuary at Clay in charge.
Surving are two sons, Clark of Ovapa and Donald of Washington, D. C.; five daughters, Mrs. Ledger Brown, Mrs. Lemon Brown, Mrs. John Brown, Mrs. Herbert O'Dell and Miss Ellen Hanshaw, all of Ovapa; six brothers, Ward and Henry of Valley Fork, Wallace of Wanego, Van of Procious, Grover of Spring Hill and Jack of Anderson, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Norman of Anderson, Ind., and Mrs. Lily Hershman of Clendenin.
