It is uncertain if Miriam was born Miriam Hanshaw, or was perhaps Miriam Almira Cozad, apparently "adopted" (formally or informally) by Mary Ann Obrion Simmons and the Francis Hanshaw family.h

She married Jehu Summers.d,b  (Jehu Jacob Summers)i  (Andrew Summers)a  Jehu was born about 1781, Virginia.d,b

Jehu is believed to have been previously married to a Joanna Davis, who died of typhoid and by whom he had 14-16 children.h,i
