Romie Watson Hanshaw2,3,4,5 [Romeo Watson Hanshaw6, Roma Handshaw7,8].

It appears he might have been formally named Romeo, as he was referenced in one legal document6 (and the 1900 census),8 however he was always called Romie.2  

Born Oct 2 18941,7 [Aug 2 18942, Aug 2 18954,8,9,10], Valley Fork, Clay County, West Virginia1,7.  

He married Maria Woznicz VonLutterveld5,11 [Maria VonSutterveldt12, Maria Woznicz11], Oct 4 19165,11, Akron, Summit County, Ohio5,11.  Marriage by Rev. William P. Thorpe, assistant Pastor at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Akron, Ohio.5  Romie and Maria were both age 22 at the time of their marriage.5  Her address at the time of her marriage was 281 Miles Ave., Akron, Ohio.10  

Maria, daughter of John Woznicz & Koania Tataulak/Tatawlak5, was born Apr 19 18945, Kalbow/Kaltow, Austria/Hungary5 [Kaltbow, Hungary10].  Marie had previously been married to Heinric "Henry" Von Lutterveld (from Holland), a substitute fireman who had married her in 1914 at Ellis Island;2 he was killed while fighting a fire in Akron, Ohio, six weeks after they had married.13  

On Jun 5 1917 Romie Watson Hanshaw, age 22, registered for the World War I draft in Akron, Summit County, Ohio.  He declared he was born Aug 2 1894 in Clay County, West Virginia, and was then residing at 1134 4th Ave. in Akron, where he was married and employed as an inspector for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.  He was recorded as medium build, dark eyes, black hair.14  

Maria died Nov 28 1918, Akron, Summit County, Ohio; buried East Akron Cemetery, Summit County, Ohio.10,15,16  Marie died in the influenza epidemic of 1917-1918.  Neighbors had missed seeing the Hanshaws and went to their home to check on them.  They found Marie dead and Romie extremely ill.2  

Romie worked in Akron, Ohio, until the death of Marie; after her death he returned to West Virginia.2  

He then married Mindia Edith Thomas, Jul 26 1919, at the bride's home, Blue Knob, Clay County, West Virginia.2,4  Marriage by the Rev. Harris.2  Mindia, daughter of Michael Irvin Thomas & Emma Westfall, was born Sep 19 1897, Clay County, West Virginia.1,2,17  [Mindia's parents Michael Irvin Thomas 1871-1942, Emma Westfall Thomas 1871-1940].18  

Mindia was the sister of Jacob William Thomas who married Romie's sister Emma Etta Hanshaw, and also the sister of Hiram "Albert" Thomas who married Romie's sister Icie Jane Hanshaw.2  

Romie and family were shown in the 1920 census (Feb 19 1920), Clay County, West Virginia:1

Hanshaw, Roma [unclear] W., head-of-household, age 25 [or 23 - unclear], born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia; rented home; occupation: laborer, farm.
Hanshaw, Minda E., wife, age 22, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia.
Hanshaw, Virgil W., son, age 2 years 5 months, born in Ohio; parents born in West Virginia.
Living next door in 1920 was the family of brother Alfred.19  

Romie and Mindia ran a store at Hartland, Clay County, West Virginia.  He would row his boat across the Elk River to bring supplies for the store and then carry the big sacks of feed up the river bank to the store.2  

Romie Watson Hanshaw died Dec 11 1922, at his father's home, Clay County, West Virginia; age 28y 2m 9d.2,4,7,9  Medical: Romie died from pneumonia.7  

After Romie died, Mindia remarried Aug 28 1924 to Lewis Sherman Mullins in Clay County, West Virginia.2  

Mindia and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 29 1930), Clay County, West Virginia:20

Mullens, Sherman, head-of-household, age 36, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia; first married at age 30; owned home; no radio in home; occupation: farmer, general farm; not a veteran.
Mullens, Minda, wife, age 31, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia; first married at age 25 [sic].
Mullens [sic], Edward, son, age 6, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia.
Mullens, Betty, daughter, age 4, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia.
Mullens, Roy, son, age 2, born in West Virginia; parents born in West Virginia.

In 1987 Mindia was living in/near Maysel, Clay County, West Virginia.17  

Mindia died Jan 16 1987, Kanawha County, West Virginia; buried Mullins Cemetery, Clay County, West Virginia.2,17
