Levi was shown in the 1850 census, Berkeley County, Virginia, living with his widowed sister Isabella and her children:e
Levi and Annie were married at the home of her father at "Church Hill", by the Rev. J. H. Jennings.132
Note that Levi's brother Thornton married Susan Rawlings Snodgrass in 1844.132    Sarah Ann's relationship to Susan is unknown (but Sarah Ann's grandmother's name was Susanne Rawlings).o

Levi was a Mason, a member of the A. F. & A. M. Lodge at Sheperdstown, W. VA.132
On the fourth Thursday of May, 1861, a public referendum was held in Virginia on the issue of secession from the Union.    The referendum passed by a majority of 96,750 out of a total vote of 161,018.    Levi Henshaw voted against the ratification of the ordinance of secession.132    In 1864, Levi took an oath of loyalty to the Union:132
Office Provost Marshall,Martinsburg, Va., Feb. 11, 1864.This certifies that Levi Henshaw, of the county of Berkeley and the State of Virginia, has this day voluntarily taken the oath of allegiance to the Constitution and Government of the United States of America.

After of the Civil War, in 1868, Levi and family moved to Hedgesville, Berkeley County, West Virginia.166
