Lewellyn Magellan Hinshaw6 [L. M. Hinshaw6, Lew M. Hinshaw6,7].

Born Feb 23 1875, Harveyville, Wabaunsee County, Kansas.6,7,8,9,10,11  

Lewellyn was commonly known as L.M. or Lew.6  He was a physician, probably practicing general medicine since this was before the days of medical specialization.6  He delivered more than 1500 babies, and performed more tonsillectomies than he could count.12  

In the summer of 1904, Dr. L.M. Hinshaw moved to Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas to serve an internship under a Dr. Roberts, who had an established practice.  Before long his brother Everett also moved to Bennington, and the two shared office space.13  

Lewellyn, along with his brother Everett, became an early member of "The Bennington Concert Band", which had been (re)organized in 1912.13  

He married Lillie May Bosanko14,15 [Lillian Bosanko16], about 190614,15.  Lillie, daughter of William Bosanko & Ann/Anna Olson, was born Jun - 1885, Ottowa County, Kansas.14,17,18,19,20  

Lillie died 1909, Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas; buried Block 5, Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas.14,20  

Widower Lewellyn was shown in the 1910 census, living with his widowed mother-in-law on Bennington St., Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas:15

Bosanko, Anna, head-of-household, age 62, born in Wisconsin; parents born in Norway; widow; 8 children, 4 living; occupation: own income; owned home (free).
Henshaw L., son-in-law, age 36; [birthplace and parents' birthplaces blank]; widower; occupation: M.D., physician.
Olson, Oliver, brother, age 60, born in Wisconsin; parents born in Norway; single; occupation: own income.

He then married Cynthia Pearle Alvord21 [Pearle Alvord22,23].  Cynthia, daughter of Henry M. + Arvilla Alvord, was born Nov 28 1888, Ottawa County, Kansas.1,4,21,22,24,25

Pearl Hinshaw, age 26.
Tella Hinshaw, age 2 months.

On Sep 12 1918 Llewellyn Magellan Hinshaw, age 43, registered for the World War I draft in Minneapolis, Ottawa County, Kansas.  He declared he was born Feb 23 1875, and was then residing in Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas where he was a self-employed physician.  He declared his nearest relative was his wife, Pearl A. Hinshaw of Bennington.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, brown eyes, light brown hair.11

Lewellyn and Pearl were shown in the 1940 census (Apr 2 1940), Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas:25

Henshaw, Llewellyn, head-of-household, age 63, born in Kansas; completed 6 years of college; on Apr 1 1935 was living in the same house; owned home ($4000 value); occupation: doctor, private practice.
Henshaw, Pearl, wife, age 51, born in Kansas; completed 3 years of high school; on Apr 1 1935 was living in the same house.

Lewellyn served in the Kansas State Legislature as a Representative for two years.13  In 1947 he was a a Republican serving District 62, Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas.26  

Lewellyn Magellan Hinshaw died 1957, buried Block 6, Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas.6,21,27  

In 1974 Pearle was still living in/near Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas.21,22  

Cynthia died Nov 12 1974, Ottawa County Hospital, Minneapolis, Ottawa County, Kansas; buried Block 6, Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Ottawa County, Kansas.21,22,23  

Pearle's obituary was published in the "Salina Journal" (Salina, Kansas) on Tuesday, November 12, 197421 (see scan below).
