Billy Hinshaw

Billy A. Hinshaw, 68, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at his home.  Born April 7, 1937, in Oquawka, he was the son of Adolphus and Sarah Simmons Hinshaw.  On Oct. 20, 1957, he married Donna Smith in Oquawka.  

Mr. Hinshaw erected Butler Buildings in the area.  He then worked for 43 years for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and American Ordinance in Middletown.  He retired from American Ordinance in 2000.  

He was raised and educated in the Oquawka schools and was a graduate of G and O High School.  He was a member of the Local Machinist's Union and Oquawka Masonic Lodge.  He was an avid sports enthusiast and an Illini and Dodgers fan.  He enjoyed playing softball and hunting.  He loved to travel to Branson, Mo., and Las Vegas and liked going to the boat.  

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cari Moore and Amy Hinshaw, both of Oquawka; two grandsons; two sisters, Shirley Lox and Delores Olson, both of Oquawka; and a number of nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.  

Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.  

The graveside service with Masonic rites for Mr. Hinshaw will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Oquawka Cemetery, with Pastor Lyren Haney officiating.  

Memorials have been established for Henderson County Health Department and Blessing Hospice.
