Durbin Hinshaw Sr.  

Durbin L. Hinshaw Sr., 73, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 730 [sic] a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1996, at Burlington Medical Center.  

Born Nov. 24, 1922, in Rozetta, Ill., he was the son of Doss and Elizabeth Simmons Hinshaw.  He married Irma L. Mitchell on June 10, 1946, in Macomb, Ill.  

Mr. Hinshaw attended school in Oquawka, Ill., and was a Navy veteran of World War II.  He worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 34 years, retiring in 1984.  

He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Burlington, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7082, Masonic Lodge 123 and Eagles Lodge 3629.  He was a Republican precinct committeeman for Oquawka for several years and also was treasurer and trustee of Oquawka Cemetery for several years.  

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda Brill of Oquawka, Ill.; one son, Durbin Hinshaw Jr. of Oquawka; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Hinshaw and Bill Hinshaw, both of Oquawka; and two sisters, Jean Lox and Delores Olson, both of Oquawka.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.  

Friends may call today and until the time of service on Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Ill.  

The graveside service for Mr. Hinshaw, with Masonic and military rites, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Oquawka Cemetery, with the Rev. William Schlobohm officiating.  

A memorial has been established for North Henderson Ambulance Service of Oquawka.

Irma died Nov 15 2014, Oak Wood Estates, Stronghurst, Illinois; age 88.7

IRMA LOUISE HINSHAW

Irma Louise Hinshaw, age 88, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at the Oak Wood Estates in Stronghurst, Illinois on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:20 am.  She was born in Mora, Minnesota on March 8, 1926, the daughter of Albert and Lillie May (Jordon) Mitchell.  Irma was reared and educated in Macomb, Illinois and was a graduate of Macomb High School.  On June 10, 1946, she married Durbin L. Hinshaw in Macomb, Illinois and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1996.  She met Durbin, in what was to become their restaurant, where she began work waiting tables.  They resided in Macomb for a number of years until they moved to Oquawka, Illinois in the 1950's.  Irma was a mother to her children and homemaker until her family was raised.  She was then employed as a seamstress at Smoler's in Monmouth and was later at Sickels Laundry in Burlington, Iowa where she worked as a press person until her retirement.  She enjoyed Bingo and "Going to the Boat."  She was a 50 year member of the O.E.S.  Irma is survived by one son; Durbin (Pauline) Hinshaw Jr. of Oquawka, one daughter; Linda (David) Brill of Oquawka, her grandchildren; Kim (Jeff) Ward of Oquawka, Megan (Ned) Adams of Carman, IL, Sara (Ryan) Daniels of Biggsville, IL, and Jimmy Bielser Jr. (Donny Claypool) of Oquawka.  Also surviving are seven step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.  

Services: A graveside service is planned for 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka, Illinois.  Her family has established a memorial fund for Hospice Compassus.
