Born Sep 1 19141,2,3 [about 19164], Mahaska County, Iowa1,2,3.
When Mildred was born there was a contention as to her middle name, Mary, May or Martha. Her father registered her as Mildred M. Hinshaw, with only the middle initial M. He told her that she could decide later what middle name she wanted. Mildred was so tickled at the story that she decided "M." alone would suit her fine.2
Mildred was shown in the 1930 census (Apr 10 1930), living (or staying) with her grandmother at 623 North B Street, Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa:4
Hinshaw, Julia L., head-of-household, age 64, born in Iowa; parents born in England; married [sic]; first married at age 20; owned home ($4,000 value); no radio in home; occupation: none.
Hinshaw, Mildred, granddaughter, age 14, born in Iowa; parents born in Iowa; attended school.
Mildred graduated from Oskaloosa high school and attended William Penn College where she majored in Business and Religious Education. Later she moved to California.2
She married Charles Pete Hegy, Apr 15 1935.1,5 Charles was born Jun 11 1909.5

Frederick Owen ('Fred') Hegy, born Jun 6 1937; married Linda Doane.
Mildred Ann ('Ann') Hegy, born Oct 2 1938; married Feb 19 1956, Raymond J. Reaves.
Gary Martin Hegy, born Feb 24 1944; married Marge Carpenter.
Michael Allen ('Mike') Hegy, born Oct 20 1945; married Edie Jones.
Mildred and Pete spent much of their lives working with young people. Pete was Cub master from 1945 to 1956 when he became District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts. Mildred served as den mother and later as Girl Scout leader. In 1951 she was elected to the school board in Fair Oaks and served 2 terms.2
Pete and Mildred were charter members of the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church. They were sponsors of the Westminster Youth Fellowship for 8 years. Mildred directed the youth choir until they disbanded to join the Chancel Choir. Mildred also sang in the Chancel Choir and sang for many Weddings and Funerals. She taught in the Sunday School for many years. She is also a deaconess and served two years as Compassion Chairman.2
Charles died Aug 26 1961.5
In 1979 she retired from San Juan Unified School District, where she was Supervisor of Attendance for 19 years. She then did volunteer work in the church office until she had a serious operation in December of 1990. At the present time (1998) she is a co-leader of the "Cares and Shares" Parish.2
