ROSE MARGARET NORDLUND

Rose Margaret Nordlund of Samish Island passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at a local care center.

The youngest child of Alma and Boyd Henshaw, Topsy, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Mount Vernon on October 18, 1923, and lived her entire life in Skagit County.

She married Robert Nordlund of Mount Vernon on March 16, 1945.  When his military service ended shortly after the war Bob and Topsy made their home on the hill in Mount Vernon where they remained until their youngest son graduated from high school in 1968.  At that time they sold the family business and moved to Samish Island.

Topsy enjoyed sports all of her life.  She played several when young and was an avid and knowledgeable fan to the end.  She especially liked tennis, swimming and baseball.  For many years Bob and Topsy shared their interest in the outof-doors during annual hunting and fishing trips to Eastern Washington.

Above all Topsy loved her husband, her family, and her home on North Beach.

She is survived by one sister, Frances Smith, and her husband, Don, of Seattle; her husband, Robert, at the family home; two sons: Robert and his wife Yolanda, of San Pablo, CA, Peter and his wife, Megan, of Samish Island and their children: son, Philo, and his friend, Renee Chun, of Seattle, and daughters, Theresa and Danielle.

At her request no service will be held.  Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice, P.O. Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.

Topsy's family would like to thank the staff of Life Care Center of Skagit Valley for their kindness and quality of care.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon, Washington.

Robert died Feb 27 2003.5

Roberts's obituary was published in the "Skagit Valley Herald" (Mt. Vernon, Washington) on May 4 2003:5

ROBERT NORDLUND

Samish Island resident, Robert Nordlund, passed away on February 27, 2003, at a local care center.

Born in Mount Vernon on May 14, 1920, the son of Swedish immigrants, Riverbend was his first home and the scene of vivid childhood memories.  His formal education ended at the age of sixteen when he went to work for his father, Robert, Sr., who was operating a heavy construction and hauling business.  Having lost his only sibling, an older brother, in childhood, Robert had the further misfortune of seeing his father die young.  With his mother, Chris, he took over the family business when he was in his early twenties and operated it until his retirement in 1968.

In 1945 he married Rose Margaret Henshaw of Mount Vernon.  She preceded him in passing in 2001.  After his military service Bob and Topsy, as they were known to friends and family, made their home in Mount Vernon where they remained until their sons finished school.  At that time they sold the family business and moved to Samish Island.

Outside of work and after retiring Bob and Topsy enjoyed hunting, fishing and the out-ofdoors.  They also enjoyed the company of employees, friends and business associates at favorite watering holes of the period.  Their home on North Beach was always a source of pleasure and satisfaction.

Robert is survived by two sons: Robert and his wife, Yolanda, of San Pablo, CA; Peter and his wife, Megan, of Samish Island and their children: son, Philo of Seattle and daughters, Theresa and Danielle.

At his direction, no services will be held.  Memorials are suggested to a favorite charity.

Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
