Gray Hinshaw Lewis
Mrs. Lewis, of Charlotte, passed away on October 29, 2005 at Huntersville Oaks. She celebrated her 100th birthday on May 20, 2005. She was born in Randleman, NC to the late Joseph V. Hinshaw and Louisa B. Hinshaw. She was the youngest of ten. Her education was completed at a boarding school in Pleasant Garden, NC. Mrs. Lewis was married to Ira O. Lewis on March 8, 1929. They shared a warm and loving life together for 62 years until his death on May 18, 1991. She moved to Merrywood in 1992 and there, she enjoyed many years with her friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 60 years and a member of the 'Sarah' Circles. Mrs. Lewis was also a member of Masonic Amaranth, Carolina Circle #10 and served a year as the Royal Matron. She will be missed dearly.
Mrs. Lewis was a loving and devoted mother and friend to her two children and in-laws. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Charles V. Lewis and wife Julie, of Charlotte; daughter, Betsy L. Kennedy and her husband, Francis 'Pete', their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of High Point, NC.
A graveside service for Mrs. Lewis will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 31, 2005 at Sharon Memorial Park with Rev. Bob Boggan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 31603, Charlotte, NC 28231.
Harry and Bryant Company is serving the family of Mrs. Lewis.
