Joseph Vance Hinshaw, Jr.

Mr. Hinshaw died on October 9, 2009 from complications after having out-patient surgery.  He was a very young and active 65- year-old.  He was very proud of being from the Charlotte area and having graduated from West Mecklenburg High School Class of 1962.  He served in the National Guard and respectfully displayed his honorable discharge on the wall of his home.  He cherished his friendships and was known for his congeniality and loyalty.

Mr. Hinshaw was a successful fence sales representative who was devoted to his customers.  He was a talented, skilled craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands.  He was an avid NASCAR fan who loved boating, hunting, and fishing.  He enjoyed wildlife and would give gifts of birdfeeders.  His most special gift of all was his custom-made owl houses.

Mr. Hinshaw was well known as the original co-owner of Twisters Bar and Dance Club at Lake Norman which became the home of Twisters Shag Club.  He took an empty strip-mall facility and turned it into a very popular, nicely designed, and well managed club.

The passion of his life was establishing a Teen Club in the Mooresville area.  It was important to him that they have a place to go and enjoy their friendships which reminded him of his times at Thomasboro Community House.

Not enough can be said about the impact his many friends had on his life.  He cherished these friendships and rightfully bragged that he had great friends.  Nothing bought him more pleasure than entertaining at his home and looking for the best in others.  His friends shared many memories which involved a lot of laughter and story telling.  They were there for him during his period of illness.

Mr. Hinshaw was born in Randelman, NC on January 23, 1944, to the late Joseph Vance Hinshaw, Sr. and Mary Edith Trogdon.  He is survived by a sister, Susan Abernathy and brother, Bruce Hinshaw, and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hinshaw's adopted family of friends would like to especially thank the medical staff of CMC Trauma ICU for their caring and heroic efforts.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. with memorial service at 3 p.m. at Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville.  A burial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 16, at Randolph Memorial in Asheboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville, is serving the family.  www.raymerfuneralhome.org.
