On Sep 12 1918 Claud Johnathan Hinshaw, age 32, registered for the World War I draft in Madison County, Indiana.  He declared he was born Oct 12 1885, and was then residing in Lapel, Madison County, Indiana, self-employed occupied in "general repair".  He declared his nearest relative was his wife, Mrs. Hazel Hinshaw of Lapel.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, gray eyes, light brown hair.¹¹

Hinshaw of Lapel.  He was recorded as 5'9" tall, 196 lbs., gray eyes, brown hair, light complexion, and "mole on right side of nose".¹²

Hazel's obituary was published in the "Anderson Daily Bulletin" (Anderson, Indiana) on Monday, June 13, 1966,^20,23 and in "The Anderson Herald" (Anderson, Indiana) on Wednesday, June 15, 1966²⁴ (see scans below).
