Maude was known as "Aunt Maude" to the whole community.1
After farming in Marin County for some years, in 1918 "Big Bill" bought 179 acres at 790 Tomales Road in Sonoma County, where he had a herd of "good grade" Durham cows, some sheep and 2000 hens.1,4
"Big Bill" had a great love for horses and avoided automobiles wherever and as long as possible. He was a very large man.1

SONOMA RANCHER DROPS DEAD AT HOME
Petaluma, April 10.
William Pettis Hinshaw, rancher, dropped dead last night at his home in Two Rock while seated on a couch. Death was due to a heart attack. A native of Tomales, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Baker Hinshaw and nephew of W. P. (Pet) Hinshaw, who was a millionaire landowner of Sonoma county; brother of A. G. Hinshaw of this city; Mrs D. H. McReynolds, Santa Rosa; cousin of B. B. Hinshaw, president of the Dairyman's Coast Bank, Valley Ford; Mrs M. L. Winans, J. W. Lawrence; husband of Maude Hinshaw and father of Clarence and Charles Hinshaw.
