Joseph's obituary was published in the "News-Record" (Greensboro, North Carolina) on June 2, 2010:⁴

Joseph "Joe" L. Hinshaw, 54, of 3345 Bellemont-Mt. Hermon Road, Burlington died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 3:55 a.m. following a brief illness.   A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Edward M. Hinshaw and Mildred Coble Hinshaw, who survives.  He was a brick mason and employed with S & S Siding for 20 years.  Joe was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church.   In addition to his mother of the home, survivors include his sister, Kathy H. Dotson and husband Terry of Greensboro; and three brothers, Michael L. Hinshaw and wife Debra of Liberty, Kenneth C. Hinshaw and wife Joy of Graham and Carl E. Hinshaw and wife Jamie of Burlington.   A memorial service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. by Rev. Dr. Jerry Jackson and Pastor Michael Karns.   The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday from 3 until 4 p.m. prior to the service.  Other times they will be at the residence.   Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
