Born 10-5-1820, Lost Creek MM, Jefferson County, Tennessee.4,5,6  

He married Julia Ann Aulener7,8 [Julian Ann Aulener1, Julia Ann Faulkner2,8,9], 5-12-18417,8, White Lick MM, Plainfield, Indiana7,8.  Julia, daughter of Jesse Faulkner & Hannah Pickering, was born about 1823, Ohio.2,3,10,11  

At White Lick MM on 5-12-1841, Ira and wife (??) Julia Aulener were declared "at liberty to marry".  The reference to Julia as his wife may be a transcription error in the Quaker records, or it may mean that they had already married and the "at liberty" declaration was a formality.7  

At White Lick MM on 4-15-1846, Ira and family were granted a certificate to Pleasant Plain MM, Iowa.7  

At Pleasant Plain MM (Iowa) on 5-21-1846, Ira & wife Julian & minor child Levi were received on a certificate from White Lick MM dated 4-15-1846.1  

Ira and family were shown in the 1850 census (Aug 19 1850), Keokuk County, Iowa:3

Ira Hinshaw, age 29, born in Tennessee; merchant; $100 real estate.
Juliann Hinshaw, age 26, born in Ohio.
Livi Hinshaw, age 8, born in Indiana.
Nancy Quakenbush, age 17, born in Indiana.

At Richland MM on 3-12-1857, Ira was disowned for "joining a secret society".1  

Ira and family were again shown in the 1860 census, Keokuk County, Iowa:11

Ira Hinshaw, age 40, born in Tennessee; sawyer; $1500 real estate; $400 personal property.
Julia A Hinshaw, age 37, born in Tennessee [sic].
Levi S Hinshaw, age 18, born in Indiana; attended school.

At Richland MM on 2-5-1887, Ira was again received by request.1  

Ira Hinshaw died 10-24-1900.1
