On Aug 21 1861, at Fairhaven, New York, Edgar B. Henshaw, age 21 [sic], enlisted as a Private in Company F, 2nd New York Cavalry;^11,12,13 re-enlisted Dec 21 1863;¹³ promoted to full Corporal;¹² transfered to Company D on Aug 29 1864;¹³ mustered out Jul 20 1865 in New York, New York.¹² Edgar was in the battles at Bull Run and Fredericksburg, and was twice wounded.⁶ Reported missing in action at Bull Run, Aug 29 1862.¹³ His military file recorded him as 5'4" tall, brown eyes, brown hair.¹³

He married Cyrina Barber¹ [Serena Barber², Rachel C. Barber³], Jun 21 1870¹. Cyrina was born Jan - 1850, New York.^2,3,4,9,10

Edgar and Cyrena were shown in the 1870 census (Sep 2 1870), living with Edgar's parents in Aurora, Erie County, New York:⁹

On Dec 6 1879 Edgar B. Henshaw applied for a pension as an invalid veteran of Companies D and F, 2nd New York Cavalry.¹⁴

Edgar and family were shown in the 1910 census (Apr 16 1910), Sixth Street, Little Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York:³

Edgar Bernice Henshaw died Mar 1 1913, buried Little Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York.¹

Edgar's funeral was reported in the "Olean Evening Times" (Olean, New York) on Wednesday, March 5, 1913¹⁵ (see scan below).

On Mar 24 1913 Cyrena R. Henshaw applied for a pension as widow of Edgar B. Henshaw, veteran of Companies D and F, 2nd New York Cavalry.¹⁴
