Luther never married, as he felt an obligation to care for his widowed mother, Nancy.2  

On Sep 12 1918 Luther Lafayette Hinshaw, age 42, registered for the World War I draft in Mississippi County, Missouri.  He declared he was born Aug 29 1876, and was then residing in Hickman, Fulton County, Kentucky where he was a self-employed farmer.  He declared his nearest relative was Nancy Laincy [unclear] Hinshaw of Hickman, Kentucky.  He was recorded as 5' 11" tall, medium build, brown eyes, brown hair.1

Luther and his mother were shown in the 1920 census (Feb 6 1920), James Bayou Township, Mississippi County, Missouri:7

Hinshaw, Nancy L., mother, age 78, born in Tennessee; parents born in U.S.; widow; cannot read or write.
Living just a few houses away in 1920 was the family of brother Oscar.8

After brother Oscar died, Luther took in Oscar's widow Lela and their children to live on the family farm along the Mississippi river.2  

Luther Lafayette Hinshaw died Sep 14 1960, Mississippi County, Missouri; buried IOOF Cemetery, Charleston, Mississippi County, Missouri.2,3
