HASLETT, Mich. - Mildred Lavina (Henshaw) Allen, age 94, of Haslett died Oct. 4, 2010.  

Mildred was born Aug. 4, 1916, to John and Viola (Avery) Henshaw in Eckford Township, Calhoun County, Mich.  She married Ward Allen on June 15, 1936, in Angola, Ind.  

Ward and Mildred were engaged in farming on F Drive South near Marshall, from 1944-1977.  Mildred was also employed as a teacher at various rural, one-room schoolhouses around Calhoun County for 20 years.  After retirement, Ward and Mildred lived in Florida for a period of time, and then moved north again, residing near Hudson, Mich.  

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ward; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen Murie and Norman Payne; and her son-in-law, Harvey D. Teller.  She is survived by her son, Richard J. (Margaret) Allen, Sr. of East Lansing; daughter, Janice L. Teller of Litchfield; two grandchildren, Tammy (Tony) Valdez of Clayton and Richard J. (Susan) Allen, Jr. of Adrian; six great-grandchildren and six great- -great-grandchildren.  

A memorial service celebrating Mildred's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Hudson First United Methodist Church, 420 W. Main St., Hudson.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hudson First United Methodist Church or to the Hospice of the donor's choice.  The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing.  Please visit to sign the guestbook for the family.
