Minnie's obituary was published in "The Madison Eagle" (Madison, Virginia) on December 27, 1935:12
Mrs. Aquilla Henshaw - Mrs. Minnie Hitt Henshaw was born July 1, 1870, and died December 20, 1935, aged 65 years, 5 months and 19 days, at the family home near Novum.
She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hitt, of Slate Mills. She married Aquilla Henshaw May 13, 1906. She leaves two sons, Messrs. Jesse and Thomas Henshaw [sic]; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. J. F. Brown and Nannie Hitt of Culpeper; two brothers, Messrs. Thomas and Merry Hitt of Culpeper.
She joined State Mills Baptist church in her girlhood: after her marriage, Mt. Carmel Church. She spent a remarkably active and useful life.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Mt. Carmel church. It was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Charles A. Hall. Mr. J. C. Clore was funeral director. Her sons and nephews were active pall bearers. The flowers were mute tributes to this good woman. She was laid to rest in the church cemetery. There was a large attendance.

Aquilla's obituary was published as follows:14
A. W. Henshaw - Aquilla Wade Henshaw, of near Novum, died Sunday afternoon, March 8, 1936, after a short illness and his sudden death was a shock to the people of his community. He had been a lifelong resident of Madison County and was 70 years old.
Mr. Henshaw was being taken to a Charlottesville hospital, when he expired near Ruckersville.
He was the son of the late James O. Henshaw and Eliza Ann Early, of Madison. His wife, who was formerly Miss Minnie Hitt, died December 20, 1935.
He is survived by two sons, Jesse C. Henshaw, of Washington, and James Henry Henshaw, at home. Five sisters survive, Mrs. Henry A. Owens, of Novum; and Misses Mollie, Dollie, Eunice and Lena Henshaw, of Novum: also two grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon from Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at Haywood, with interment in the family lot of the church cemetery. Rev. Charles A. Hall conducted the services. Active pall-bearers were Joseph M. Yowell, R. Emmett Early, Harrison H. Hitt, Edmund Henshaw, Joseph S. Henshaw and J. Henry Brown; honary, Wade T. Brown, M. A. Hitt, Champe Blankenbaker, W. Henry Hitt, Joe Tanner, Fred Hitt, C. M. Twyman and D. W. Thornhill Sr. The services were attended by a large assemblage which filled the church to capacity. The Geest funeral parlors were in charge of the services.
