He married Iola Marie Carpenter, Jun 8 1936, Arlington, Virginia.1  Iola, daughter of Simeon Dutton Carpenter & Ella Frances Aylor, was born Oct 11 1912, Madison County, Virginia.1,9,10,11  

Iola died Mar 11 1987, at her home, Reva, Culpeper County, Virginia; buried Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Haywood, Madison County, Virginia.1,5,9,10  

Iola's obituary was published as follows:10

Iola Marie Carpenter Henshaw, 74, of Reva, VA., died Wednesday, March 11, 1987, at her residence.  

Born October 11, 1912, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Simeon Dutton and Ella Frances Aylor Carpenter.  

She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Haywood.  

She is survived by her husband, James H. Henshaw, Sr., of Reva; two daughters, Frances Emiline Smoot of Reva and Mary Ann McGuire of Aroda, Va.; five sons, James H. Henshaw II, John D. Henshaw and Gorie P. Henshaw, all of Reva; Frederick W. Henshaw of Brightwood and George R. Henshaw of Haywood; two brothers, Gorie L. Carpenter of Stevensburg and Simeon A. Carpenter of Brightwood; one twin sister, Iva Mae Utz of Madison and 12 grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by a son, Roland Henshaw.  

A funeral service will be Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Haywood with interment in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Gordon George and Elder Toliver Utz will officiate.  

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Haywood.  

Preddy Funeral Home, Orange in charge of arrangements.

James H. Henshaw - James Henry Henshaw, 86, of Reva, died Friday, August 13, 1999 at his residence.  Born March 3, 1913 at Henshaw Manor, Reva, he was son of the late Aquilla Wade Henshaw and Minnie Hitt Henshaw and husband of the late Iola Carpenter Henshaw.  Mr Henshaw was a retired farmer, member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, served on the Madison County School Board Selection Commission for a number of years, helped establish the Rapidan Water Authority and was a former member of the Linn Banks Masonic Lodge #126 and the Charlottesville Moose Lodge # 1028.  

Survivors include his wife, Lauretta Curry Henshaw of Reva; two daughters, Frances E. Smoot and her husband Everett of Reva and Mary Ann McGuire and her husband Charles of Haywood; five sons, James H. Henshaw II and John D. Henshaw, both of Reva, Frederick W. Henshaw of Fredericksburg, George R. Henshaw and Gorie P. Henshaw and his wife Loraine, all of Haywood; ten grandchildren, Charles C. McGuire II and his wife Jennifer of Rixeyville, Dinah Kay Henshaw of Culpeper, Gregory A. Henshaw of Brightwood, Thomas M. McGuire and his wife Amy and Mike Leake Smoot and his wife Starr, all of Charlottesville, Jonathan L. Henshaw and his wife Michelle of Madison, George (Rusty) and Erica L. Henshaw both of Haywood, James H. Henshaw III and Jesse N. Henshaw, both of Reva; two great-grandchildren; a nephew and a number of other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by a son, Roland Thomas Henshaw; a sister, Eva Jane Henshaw; a brother, Jesse Charles Henshaw, and a nephew, Charles Henry Henshaw.  

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 17, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery, conducted by Rev. Brian Wagner.  

Preddy Funeral Home, Madison, was in charge of arrangements.
