Adelaide Lawton
LODI -- Adelaide Lawton, 102, of Lodi, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Brevard, N.C.
She was born Jan. 31, 1907, in Scenery Hill, Pa., to Luther and Haddie (Porter) Henshaw and moved to Ohio in 1911. She was a 1925 graduate of Wooster High School and Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in 1930.
Adelaide married William Lawton on Jan. 30, 1932. He preceded her in death in 2002.
She was a homemaker and a member of James Fowler Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and First Congregational Church of Lodi, where she was a Sunday school teacher and active with other church organizations.
Surviving are daughters, Sara (Glenn) Winston of Brevard, N.C., Martha (Bill) Watkins of Westlake Village, Calif. and Maryanna (Don) Harley of Burbank, and a son, Paul (Suzanne) Lawton of Westfield Center; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Dick Troup of McConnelsville; and a sister-in-law, Helen Henshaw of Wooster.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Troup; two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 114 Church St., Lodi, with the Revs. David Dake and Robert Holmes officiating. Private graveside services will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi.
There will be no calling hours. Parker & Son Funeral Home in Lodi, is assisting the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court St., Medina 44254; or Hospice of Transylvania County in Brevard, N.C.
