He married Margery Kemp1,2,6,11 [Margaret Kemp1], 9-18-17771,2,6,11, Cane Creek MM, North Carolina1,2,6,11. Margery, daughter of Richard Kemp & Susanna Picket, was born 10-31-1759, Orange County, North Carolina.1,2,6
Joseph Hinshaw was shown in (22) "State Census of North Carolina 1784-1787" as being a head-of-household with:
1 white male 21-60 years
1 white males under 21 & above 60
2 white females - all ages
0 blacks
Joseph, Margery & family were granted certificates to Deep River MM on 12-3-1785 at Cane Creek MM.1
At Deep River MM, on 1-2-1786, Joseph & wife "Margaret" & daughter Susannah & son Benjamin were received on certificates from Cane Creek MM dated 12-3-1785.1
At Deep River MM, on 6-1-1789, Joseph, "Margery", & family were granted certificates to Cane Creek MM.1
They again returned to Cane Creek on 11-7-1789 with certificates from Deep River MM dated 6-1-1789.1
Margery died 3-21-1798, buried Cane Creek MM, North Carolina.1,6
After Margery's death, Joseph seemed to travel frequently between several Quaker meetings in North Carolina for some reason:
At Cane Creek MM on 11-3-1798, Joseph was granted a certificate to Deep River MM.1
At Deep River MM on 1-7-1799, Joseph was received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM dated 11-8[sic]-1798.1
At Deep River MM on 4-5-1802, Joseph requested a certificate to Center MM.1
At Cane Creek MM on 3-3-1804, Joseph was received on a certificate from Center MM dated 11-19-1803.1
At Cane Creek MM on 1-3-1807, Joseph was granted a certificate to Deep River MM.1
At Deep River MM on 2-2-1807, Joseph was received on a certificate from Cane Creek MM dated 1-3-1807.1
At Deep River MM on 4-1-1811, "Joseph, of Muddy Creek" was granted a certificate to Center MM.1 (few Hinshaw records this early at Center MM).
At Cane Creek MM on 3-6-1813, Joseph was received on a certificate from Center MM dated 1-16-1813.1
Joseph Hinshaw died 6-22-1822, buried Cane Creek MM, North Carolina.1,6
Joseph's will, probated in Chatham County in 1822, is recorded in the North Carolina State Archives (Raleigh, NC); Will Book B, page 99.12
