Another obituary was published as follows:5

Long-time Cardiff/Encinitas resident Marjorie "Magee" C. Henshaw, 84, passed away in her home in the arms of her husband and daughters on October 29, 2011.

Magee, lovingly described by her husband of 56 years, Marshall, as having a "whim of iron," lived life on her own terms with vigor and determination - as well as a great sense of humor.  She left this world having made it a better place in numerous ways and it was always exciting and an honor to be in her orbit.

She is survived by her husband and her two daughters, Jean Spalding of Womelsdorf, PA and Martha Londay of Prescott, AZ; her son-in-law Anthony Esposito (Jean); granddaughter, Svetlana Henshaw Esposito; niece Deborah Watson and her children; nephew Jeffrey Carpenter and his children; and sister-in-law Jean F. Henshaw of Shelburne, VT.

She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth D., Sr. and Jean S. Carpenter, as well as by her older brother, Kenneth D., Jr.; sister-in-law, Marge; and brother-in-law, Robert Warren Henshaw.

Magee was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 16, 1927.  She graduated from the Packer Collegiate Institute with an associate’s degree in 1948.

Most of her career was spent in the travel industry, first with Pan American Airlines and Royal Dutch Airlines in New York City and then in Los Angeles, followed by Scariano Travel in Beverly Hills.  She later was co-owner of the Contempo Travel Company in Encinitas in the 1970s.  She also worked for Carlton Travel, La Costa Travel and Ask Mr. Foster Travel in North County for several years, continuing part-time after her retirement in the 1990s.  Magee loved traveling the world over while working in the travel industry.

Magee moved to the Los Angeles area in 1952 where she met the love of her life, Marshall, at a Naval Officer’s Tea in 1953.  The couple married in 1955, honeymooning in Mexico City and later traveling to Europe and throughout the West Coast before the arrival of their two daughters.

The family moved to Cardiff-by-the-Sea in 1961 when Marsh took a position as an engineer with Solar Turbines.

Magee then spent her days as a wonderful mother and fun-loving friend to many while her daughters were young.  Her volunteer activities were numerous and included mentoring members of San Dieguito High School’s Tri-Hi-Y Club, participating actively in the Cardiff Elementary School PTA, acting in plays at the San Dieguito Little Theater, working with the Children’s Hospital Auxiliary (Rancho Santa Fe chapter), volunteering at annual William Gargan Golf Tournament to benefit the Cancer Fund of the American Cancer Society at the La Costa Resort and Spa, and acting as "dock mother" to several young people in the 1970s with Oceanside Yacht Club’s Junior Sailing Program, as the family spent countless weekends over the years sailing and racing small boats.

Marsh and Magee enjoyed sailing to Catalina on their trimaran Update after retirement and traveling to and sailing around the British Virgin Islands.

The family will be holding an open house at home from 2-6 p.m., Saturday, November 19.  For more information, contact Jean at 610-698-7225.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Magee’s name to the Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. Address: Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation (Remembrance), 3020 Children’s Way, MC 5005, San Diego, CA, 92123, Attn.: Jyl Bradley.
