George's obituary was published in "The Des Moines Register" on Wednesday, September 23, 1998:7
George Hinshaw, 78, died of cancer Monday at his home on Lake Ponderosa in Montezuma. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. Mr. Hinshaw was born in Atchinson County, Mo., and moved to the Montezuma area several years ago. Prior to that, he had lived in Des Moines and worked for Waldinger Corp. for 32 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Auburn Masonic Lodge of Des Moines, Sheet Metal Workers Union, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and American Welding Society. Surviving are his wife, Frances; two daughters, Bessie Shilling of Sherman, Texas, and Elizabeth Olson of Dows; a son, Charles of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Sarah Frances Smith of Maryville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Grinnell Regional Hospice.
