Teen killed trying to cross 215 Beltway
A 15-year-old Las Vegas teenager, Richard James Hinshaw, died about 6:46 p.m. Monday while trying to cross the 215 Beltway, the Clark County Coroner's Office said today.
Hinshaw was running across the beltway with three or four other teenagers when a Pontiac Grand Am traveling southbound in the right travel lane just north of the Charleston Boulevard offramp struck the teen, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Honea.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Honea said.
The driver of the Grand Am volunteered to take a blood test, Honea said. The accident is still under investigation.
Trooper Honea said that it is illegal for a pedestrian to be on a freeway. No charges have been filed in the crash.
