On Sep 9 1918 C.C. Henshaw was issued a U.S. passport "to Italy".  He declared she was born September 29th 1872 in St. Louis, Missouri, and his father, John M. Henshaw was born in Louisiana.  He declared he intended to depart on September 18th 1918 from the Port of New York (ship unspecified), intending to visit Italy, France and Great Britain for the purpose of "Service in the American Red Cross".  He was recorded as age 45, 5' 7" tall, grey eyes, "dark brown slightly grey" hair, fair complexion, long face, square chin, high forehead, "long pointed" nose.6  

On Dec 16 1918 Charles Henshaw, age 46, apparently traveling alone, arrived at the Port of New York (Ellis Island) on the ship S.S. La Lorraine, which sailed from Bordeaux, France on Dec 3 1918.  He declared he was single, born Sept 29 1872 in St. Denis [sic], Missouri, and his address in the United States was Avery Island, Louisiana.7  

Charles was shown in the 1920 census (Mar 23 1920), living as a "boarder" with his cousin Rufus McIlhenny on Avery Island, Iberia Parish, Louisiana:11

Rufus McIlhenny was a son of Tabasco inventor E. McIlhenny and grandson of Daniel Dudley Avery & Sarah Craig Marsh; Sarah Craig Marsh was the sister of Charles' grandmother, Margaret Houston Marsh;13 thus Charles and Rufus were second cousins.  

On Feb 18 1921 Charles C. Henshaw was issued a U.S. passport.  He declared she was born Sept. 29th 1872 in St. Louis, Missouri, and his father, John M. Henshaw was born in Louisiana, and was then deceased.  Charles declared he was then residing on Avery Island, Louisiana, occupied as a banker.  His previous passport was issued from Washington on Sept. 1918 and was cancelled at New York.  He declared he intended to depart from the port of New Orleans, Louisiana "on receipt of passport", aboard the "United French SS Line", intending to visit Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Columbia, British Honduras, Cuba and Jamaica for the purpose of "travel".  He was recorded as age 48, 5' 7" tall, grey eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, long face, round chin, high forehead, straight nose.6  

On Sep 23 1924 Charles C. Henshaw was issued a U.S. passport "to England, France, Belgium and Italy".  He declared she was born Sept. 29th 1872 in St. Louis, Missouri, and his father, J M Henshaw was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was then deceased.  Charles declared he was then residing on Avery Island, Louisiana, occupied as a banker.  His previous passport was issued from Washington on Feby 18th 1921 and was "enclosed with this application".  He declared he intended to depart from the port of Quebec, Canada on Oct 16 1924 aboard the "Carmania", intending to visit England, France, Belgium and Italy for the purpose of "travel".  He was recorded as age 51, 5' 7" tall, gray eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, long face, round chin, high forehead, straight nose.6
