He declared he was born December 17th 1899 in Bulls Gap, Tennessee, and was then residing on "Rout 2", Bulls Gap where he was a self-employed farmer with a wife and two children. He claimed an exemption due to "dependent wife & 2 children". He was recorded as medium height, stout, gray eyes, dark hair.^a
