Born about 1842, Alabama.1,4 (c1846).2 (c1845).3
He married Amanda M. Frazier1,5 [Amanda Jane Frazier6], Jul 28 18681,5, Jackson County, Alabama1,5. Amanda, daughter of Solomon Frazier & Nancy Houston, was born Jan - 1848, Paint Rock Valley, Jackson County, Alabama.1,3,6,7,8
George and family were shown in the 1870 census, Jackson County, Alabama:2
Thompson, George, age 24, born in Alabama; farm laborer; $150 personal property.
Thompson, Amanda, age 22, born in Alabama; keeping house; cannot read or write.
Living next door in 1870 was the family of brother John W. Hinshaw,9 and also very nearby was the family of William Hinshaw #2266.10
George and family were again shown in the 1880 census (Jun 5 1880), Jackson County, Alabama:3
Tompson, G.W., age 35, born in Alabama; parents born in Alabama; farming.
Tompson, Amanda, wife, age 32, born in Alabama; parents born in Tennessee; keeping house.
Tompson, Martha, daughter, age 10, born in Alabama; parents born in Alabama.
Tompson, Alecey, daughter, age 9 months, born Sept [1879] in Alabama; parents born in Alabama.
Living in the same dwelling in 1880 was the family of brother John.11
George W. Thompson died about 1884.1
This family is a major mystery. They seemed to have alternated between the use of the surname Thompson4,12,13 and Hinshaw.14,15 The reason for this is unknown. Curiously, in the 1850 census Amanda's family7 was shown living next door to the family of William Hinshaw #2244,16 and very close to the families of George Washington Hinshaw #3463,17 John W. Hinshaw #3467,18 as well as the very nearby household of George W. Thompson and his parents, Green B. & Sintha A. Thompson/Hinshaw4 (whose family also alternated between Thompson and Hinshaw).
In 1888 the following deed was recorded in Jackson County, Alabama, Deed Book 17, page 192:1
Solomon Frazier & wife Nancy for love and affection to daughter Amanda Hinshaw - undivided 1/2 interest in NW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Sec 7, T 4, Rge on 8 Aug 1888.
