Born Jun 17 1924, Swaim, Jackson County, Alabama.3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10  

After the death of his parents in 1941, Joe lived with his maternal grandparents in North Carolina.11  

On Jun 18 1942 Joe Hampton Henshaw, age 18, registered for the World War II draft in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina.  He declared he was born June 17 '24 in Swaim, Alabama, and was then residing at 107 N. Lionel St., Goldsboro, North Carolina, employed by J.N. Pease Co. of Goldsboro.  He declared his relative/contact was H.C. Stuart of Erwin, North Carolina.  He was recorded as 6'1" tall, 180 lbs., brown eyes, brown hair, ruddy complextion.4  

Joe became a surgeon and lived in the Chattanooga area.11  

He married Martha -.12  

Joe and Martha divorced Nov 4 1980, Palm Beach County, Florida.12  

He then married Cheryl Gay Jones13,14 [Cheryl Gay O'Donnell13,14], Jan 16 198113,14, Broward County, Florida13,14.  Cheryl, daughter of Walter Jones & Sophia Myrtle Schuch, was born Apr 20 1944, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.7,14,15  

Cheryl had been previously married to Robert O'Donnell and had two sons by her first marriage (Bruce Robert & Bradley Mark O'Donnell).14  

Joe and Cheryl divorced Feb 24 1994, Palm Beach County, Florida.12  

He then married Jean Groner.16  Jean was born May 7 1926.5,16  

Jean died Sep 1 2001, Sweetwater Hospital, Sweetwater, Tennessee; age 75.5,16

Jean Groner Henshaw of Sweetwater, passed away Saturday, Sept 1, at Sweetwater Hospital.  Her family are members of First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater.  She graduated from Chattanooga High School.  She was a member of the Bridge Club in Sweetwater.  She was 75.  Preceded in death by: parents, Barkley and Annie Groner.  Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law-Cynthia and Dennis Richesin of Sweetwater; Sons-Mike Henshaw of Chattanooga; and David Henshaw of Knoxville; Grandchildren-Kelsey and Lindsey of Sweetwater; and Evan and Laurel of Maryville; Sister-Virginia Griffith of Richmond, Va.; Brother and sister-in-law-Carroll and Dot Groner of Chattanooga; Several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were 8 p.m., Sunday, in Kyker’s Chapel with the Revs. Julian Walton and Ted F. Baker Sr. officiating.  Graveside services were 10 a.m., Monday, at Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park.  Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, in charge of arrangements.

He then married Elizabeth Ann Crouse, May 7 1994, Sarasota County, Florida.3,6,13  Elizabeth was born May 15 1930.7

Dr. Joseph Hampton Henshaw

Dr. Joseph Hampton Henshaw of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Sweetwater, passed away Oct. 13, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.  He was a World War II Navy pilot; a graduate of Campell Junior College and Vanderbilt Medical University.  He practiced medicine in Sweetwater for more than 20 years.  He was 80.  Preceded in death by: parents, William Raymond and Lillian Stuart Henshaw.  Survivors include: wife-Elizabeth Ann Henshaw; Sons-David Henshaw of Cincinnati; and Mike Henshaw of Chattanooga; Daughter and son-in-law-Cynthia and Dennis Richesin of Sweetwater; Grandchildren-Lindsey and Kelsey Richesin and Evan and Laural Henshaw; Sister and brother-in-law-Betty and Hank Hankins of Greensboro, N.C.; Brother and sister-in-law-Bill and Marilyn Henshaw of Shelby, N.C.; Several loved nieces and nephews.  The family will have a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater, Oct. 23.  Friends will be received in the fellowship hall from 11 a.m.-noon, followed by a celebration of life in the sanctuary with Carl Oaks officiating.  The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 501 Church St., Sweetwater, TN 37874.
