After the death of her parents in 1941, Betty lived with her maternal grandparents in North Carolina.6  

She married Horace Gravely Hankins1 [Hank Hankins4].  Horace was born Mar 28 1922, North Carolina.7,8

Mary Stuart Hankins, born 1952, Wilson County, North Carolina; married David Hunter (children: Gray Bradford Hunter and Elizabeth Stuart Hunter). 9
Thomas E. G. Hankins, born Feb 23 1955, Guilford County, North Carolina; married Kate -- (children: Samuel James Hankins and Emma Sarah Hankins). 9

On Oct 17 1942 Horace G. Hankins, born 1922 in North Carolina, had enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army at Camp Croft, South Carolina.  He had declared that he had one year of college, and was then single, without dependents.  He was recorded as 75" tall, 175 lbs.8  

Betty taught school in Greensboro, North Carolina.6  

In 2004-2012 Betty and Hank were living in Greensboro, North Carolina.1,4  

Horace died Aug 4 2006.7  

Elizabeth Anne Henshaw died Jan 1 2012, at her home, Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina; inurned Starmount Presbyterian Church Columbarium.1  

Betty's obituary was published in the "News-Record" (Greensboro, North Carolina) on Thursday, January 5, 2012:1

GREENSBORO -- Elizabeth Anne Henshaw Hankins died at home on January 1, 2012.  

Following a private inurnment in the Columbarium at Starmount Presbyterian Church, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the church, after which the family will receive friends in the church parlor.  

Born on December 25, 1925 in Paint Rock, Alabama, she was the only daughter of the late William R. and Lillian Stuart Henshaw.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with the class of 1948.  In 1952, she moved with her husband and infant daughter to Greensboro; she taught English in the Greensboro Public Schools from 1962-1983.  She was a charter member of Starmount Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder, clerk of the Session, coordinator of volunteers, and had been given an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women.  

Her community volunteer activities included the American Red Cross, the Childrens Home Society, the Board of Advisors of the Presbyterian Home of High Point, and for 38 years as an active member of the Wesley Long Community Hospital Auxiliary.  

Mrs. Hankins was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Horace G. Hankins and her brother, Joe Henshaw.  

She is survived by two children: Mary Stuart Hankins Hunter and her husband, David of Columbia, SC, and Thomas E. G. Hankins and his wife Kate of Rockville, MD; and four grandchildren: Gray Bradford Hunter of Columbia, SC, Elizabeth Stuart Hunter of New York, NY, Samuel James Hankins and Emma Sarah Hankins of Rockville, MD.  Also surviving are a brother, William Henshaw and his wife Marilyn of Shelby, NC; and five nephews and a niece.  

She will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Starmount Presbyterian Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
