Born May 1 18402,3,5,6,7,8 [May - 18419], Randolph County, Indiana2,3,5,6,7,8.  

He married Harriett Barnes, Jul 4 1861, Randolph County, Indiana.5,10  Married by John Downing, J.P.11  Harriett, daughter of William + Sarah Barns, was born about 1841, Indiana.12  Note that Abel's brother Greenberry married Harriet's sister, Rachel Barnes.5,6  

In Jun 1863 Abel registered for the Civil War draft in the 5th Congressional District, Washington Township, Randolph County, Indiana:13

Hinshaw Abel, age 23, born in Ohio; married; farmer.

He then married Martha Hinshaw, Sep 17 1865, Randolph County, Indiana.1,14  Married by John Johnson, J.P.11  Martha was born May - 1829, Ohio.2,9,15,16  

At Cherry Grove MM on 4-13-1867, Abel Jr. & wife Martha & son William, "of Snow Hill", were received in membership.1  

Abel and family were shown in the 1870 census (Aug 18 1870), Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana:2

Hinshaw, Abel, age 29, born in Indiana; farmer; $1200 real estate; $260 personal property; can read, cannot write.
Hinshaw, Martha, age 40, born in Ohio; keeps house.
Hinshaw, William, age 6, born in Indiana.
Living next door in 1870 were the families of brother John17 and sister Zilpha.18  

Abel and family were shown in the 1880 census, Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana:3

Hinshaw, Able, age 40, born in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; farmer; "maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled": [type of disability unclear].
Hinshaw, Martha, wife, age 50, born in Ohio; father born in North Carolina; mother born in Ohio; keeping house.
Hinshaw, William, son, age 16, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana [sic]; works on farm; attended school.
Living next door in 1880 was the family of a Thomas H. Hinshaw19 (probably nephew Thomas Hinshaw #13472).20  

At Cherry Grove MM on 3-12-1892, Abel & wife Martha were granted a certificate to White River MM.1  

At White River MM on 4-2-1892, Abel & wife Martha were received on a certificate from Cherry Grove MM.1  

Abel and Martha were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 6 1900), Greensfork Township, Randolph County, Indiana:9

Hinshaw, Abel, head-of-household, age 59, born May 1841 in Indiana; parents born in North Carolina; married 35 years; occupation: farmer; owned farm (free).
Hinshaw, Martha, wife, age 70, born May 1829 in Ohio; father born in North Carolina; mother born in Ohio; married 35 years; no children.

Martha died 1905, buried Willow Grove Cemetery, Fountain City, Wayne County, Indiana.15  

Abel Hinshaw died Aug 11 1921, buried Cherry Grove Cemetery, Washington Township, Randolph County, Indiana.8
