Joel died Jul 1 1915, Grainger County, Tennessee; age 55.^184,j Joel committed suicide by gunshot.^j His death certificate recorded: "Deceased was found dead with gun shot wound in forehead. About 5 a.m. a report of a gun was heard half an hour or more before he was found. Coroner's finding gave verdict that wound was self inflicted with suicidal intent and that he came to his death by his own hand".^f
