Gutru, Robert, 96, retired geologist, died Saturday, October 6, 2012. Graveside Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at Andover Cemetery. Reception to follow at Crestview Country Club. Robert graduated from the University of Nebraska. Later in his life, the university awarded Robert the Distinguished Service Award for dedicated service to the university's alumnae. Then, during WWII, Robert served as a Lieutenant in the Navy. In his career, Robert received numerous awards and honors from the Kansas Geological Society and served as its President in 1962. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists from 1973-1976, and served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Outside of his career, Robert was a 32nd Degree Mason for over 50 years and served the Boy Scouts of America as a leader, advisor and supporter for over 60 years. Preceded in death by: wife of 54 years, Betty; brothers, Clarke and George. Survived by: current wife, Rachel Feek of Leavenworth, WA; daughter, Sandy (Jim) Reilly; grandson, Patrick (Ange) Reilly and their children, Dylan, Jason, Taryn, and Loren; grandson, Michael (Jaclyn) Reilly and their children, Caitlin and Cameron. A memorial has been established with Boy Scouts of America, Quivira Council, 1555 E 2nd St. N., Wichita, KS 67214. Downing & Lahey Mortuary East.
