Clare Taylor Furse, 81, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 surrounded by loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Ryan Dixon officiating. Interment will be at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. To those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street or Rebuilding Together, 3864 Lake St, Macon, GA 31204. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Dr. Furse was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late LaRue R. Seager Furse and Ernest Harry Furse. He received his Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Utah. He retired after 32 years of teaching from Mercer University. Dr. Furse also co-authored a workbook on chemistry used nationally in college and universities and was a member of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a missionary in Australia for two years, Bishop, Counselor in Stake Presidency, Director of the Family History Center and Director of Public Affairs at Macon Stake. He enjoyed volunteering with Rebuilding Together, where he was the first recipient of the Clare Furse Award. Dr. Furse proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law: Alan David (Pearl) Furse and his brothers: Orin and Tyrell Furse.
Dr. Furse is survived by his loving wife of 58 years: Shirley Henshaw Furse of Macon; children: Stephen Lee (Lynn) Furse of Canton, GA, Pamela F. Jones of Macon, Julie F. (Shannon) Allen of Antimony, UT and Jeffery Scott (Tracy) Furse of Kaysville, UT; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and a brother: Eldon Furse and sister: Mary Barton.
