During the Civil War, Mabin Henshaw served as a private in Company B, 6th North Carolina Infantry.13  

At Marlborough MM on 3-4-1865:1

"Joseph M., James W., & Mebane L., minors, received by request of father, Mebane".

On 12-3-1864 Marlborough MM women's meeting recorded:14

Mary Lounda Hinshaw requests for herself and daughter Emily Lavina to be joined in membership with friends.  Hannah N [..unclear..] and Margaret Barker are appointed to have an opportunity with her on that occasion & report when satisfied.

On 2-4-1865 Marlborough MM women's meeting recorded:14

The friends appointed to have an opportunity with Mary L Hinshaw report they have attended thereto to good satisfaction the meeting therefore unites in receiving them into membership.
