On Sep 12 1918 Clarence Jasper Hanshew, age 33, registered for the World War I draft in Madison County, Indiana. He declared he was born Aug 2 1885, and was then residing at 2429 Cedar, Anderson, Madison County, Indiana, employed by Remy Electric Co. as a tool room lathe operator. He declared his nearest relative was Mrs. Effie Alethea Hanshew of the same address. He was recorded as tall, medium build, brown eyes, dark brown hair.7

He then married Anna Lee Perrin13,15 [Annalee Perrin13,15, Annalee Long16, Annalee Stone17]. Anna, daughter of Joseph W. Perrin & Melissa O. Warner, was born Oct 18 1896, Stanford, Lincoln County, Kentucky.3,8,15,17
Annalee had been previously married to a Joseph Long, by whom she had a daughter, Kathryn Louise Long, born Aug 2 1918, died Jun 20 1951, married -- McEntire.3,16 Kathryn Louise Long apparently adopted the name Kathryn Louise Hanshew,13 although it is unknown if she was formally adopted by Clarence or not. Annalee had later remarried to Marshall Stone, Jul 9 1921, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.17

Clarence's obituary was published as follows:13
Clarence J. Hanshew, age 52, residing east of here on R.F.D.1, died early today at his home following a long illness.
He Lived in and near here for many years, and had been employed for several years at the Delco-Remy Division of General Motors.
The body was removed to the Polhemus funeral home at Daleville and will be taken tonight to the family home. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Maynard, of Daleville, in charge, assisted by Rev. Charles Hicks.
Surviving are a widow, Mrs. Annalee Hanshew; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Smith, of here, and Miss Kathryn Hanshew at home; one grandson, Robert Smith, of here, and a sister, Miss Grace Hanshew, at home.
