BLISSFIELD, Mich. -- Orris Hinshaw, 93, formerly of Blissfield, died on Nov. 6, 2009, at Aspen Grove Assisted Living where he was a resident for the past 4 ½ years. He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Kansas, grew up in rural North Dakota and married and raised his three sons in Michigan. Orris was married to Cecil Suydam for 56 years; she preceded him in 1996. He was also preceded in death by parents, Orla and Echo, and siblings, Margaret Trinka, Charlotte Bailey and Ivan Hinshaw.
Orris is survived by his sons, Norm (Pat) Hinshaw of Lambertville, Jerry (Gloria) Hinshaw of Sylvania and Jeff (Carol) Hinshaw of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Lauri (Jeff) Panning, Curtis (Emily) Hinshaw, Angie Wopshall, Amy (John) Jacob, Holly Hinshaw and Aubrey (Josh) Trammel; 10 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Glenn (Emma) Hinshaw of Dickinson, N.D.
Orris was an accomplished track and field athlete, basketball player, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression and was a Freemason. He was employed with Revco in Deerfield, Blissfield Manufacturing, and Scientemp Corp. in Adrian as a Tool and Die Supervisor. He was a long-time active member of Wellsville United Methodist Church and Emmanuel United Methodist in Blissfield. Orris will always be remembered as a devoted caregiver to his wife and for his honesty, integrity and generosity.
Visitation will be at Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Aaron Kesson officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Emmanuel United Methodist Church or to Erie West Hospice.
