Ray graduated from high school and attended two years of classes at the University of Missouri. During this time he lived with his cousin Raymond. Ray's first job was at the Kroger and Bakery in St. Louis. He then worked for the Wale Extra Family Yellow Soap Co., 2nd and E. Grand, by the River in St. Louis. This company was bought out by the Proctor and Gamble Company. He was a foreman in packing and production. The company sold soap by the car load.1

Ray was a Mason, a member of Twilight Lodge in Columbia, Scottish Rite Masonry, being a charter member of the Columbia Valley in 1969 and a member of the Shrine.1
Ray lived on his farm outside Columbia, Missouri.9

W. Ray Hinshaw, 95, of Columbia died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Boone Retirement Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St., with the Rev. Paul Larimore officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hinshaw was born Aug. 9, 1906, in Boone County to Wellie and Myrtle Stewart Hinshaw.
He married Eva Taylor on June 15, 1934, and she survives.
He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia in the College of Agriculture. He was a cattleman and farmer. He was on the board of the Boone County Cooperative and a member of the Missouri Cattlemen Association. He was a member of the Twilight Lodge and Scottish Rite, and he was a charter member of Columbia Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

William R. Hinshaw William Ray Hinshaw of Columbia died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Boone Retirement Center. He was 95.
Mr. Hinshaw was born Aug. 9, 1906, to Wellie and Myrtle Stewart Hinshaw in Boone County. He grew up in Englewood, Mo.
Mr. Hinshaw attended the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri. He moved to St. Louis to work at the Kroger grocery store and bakery and later the Wale Extra Family Yellow Soap Company.
After a serious illness, Mr. Hinshaw became a farmer and beef cattle rancher. He loved the land as much as he loved his wife, Eva.
Mr. Hinshaw married Eva Taylor on June 15, 1934. They danced, traveled and worked their way through life together. She survives. Mr. Hinshaw loved farming, fishing, and fun, and he had a wonderful sense of humor.
He served on the Board of Boone County Co-op. He was also a member of the Missouri Cattlemen Association, Twilight Lodge, Scottish Rite and a Charter member of Columbia Valley.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Parker Funeral Services, 22 N. Tenth St. Services, conducted by the Rev. Paul Larimore, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Parker Funeral Service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia.

The November-December, 2002 issue of "County Lines", Walters-Boone County Historical Museum, states that gifts by Eva Hinshaw "to the Boone County Historical Society will create the Hinshaw family file and an Englewood Community File to preserve the newspaper articles and a few mementos the family cherished for more than 95 years".9

Eva T. Hinshaw of Columbia died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003. She was 96. Mrs. Hinshaw was born in Havana, Kan., on Sept. 3, 1906, to William Preston Taylor and Lillie Sutton Taylor.
On Aug. 3, 1928, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education and teaching certificate from MU. While she attended school in Columbia, Mrs. Hinshaw was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. During her time at MU, she met her husband, William Ray Hinshaw.
Throughout the years, Mrs. Hinshaw was active in Columbia. She was the supervisor of the Recreation, Park and Playground Board. She also served as the assistance payments supervisor for the Boone County Welfare Office in Columbia.
Mrs. Hinshaw was one of the first people to sign up for electricity when the federal government offered to bring it to Boone County. She was given a plaque from the Rural Electrification Administration-Boone Electric company for being one of its longest-served customers.
She also worked with her husband on their farms. They enjoyed traveling and going to the Bull Pen Cafe, livestock auctions and plays.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Services, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Swearngin, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, also at Parker Funeral Service.
Mrs. Hinshaw’s husband and her sister, Betty Hayes, died earlier.
