Born 1835, Virginia.1,2,6,7  

During the Civil War Solomon J. Hanshew served as a private in Company F, 8th Virginia Cavalry.8,9  He enlisted May 12 1862 in Mechanicsburg, West Virginia.9  

He married Susan Adeline Hubble.6  Susan was born 1840, Virginia.1,2,6  (1842).7  

In 1870 Solomon and family settled on a homestead near Steele City, Jefferson County, Nebraska, where they lived for the remainder of their lives.3

Solomon's grave marker contains a Confederate Army emblem.7  Solomon is buried with his wife and children Florence and Kyle on the same marker.7  

Susan died May 10 1900, buried Steele City Cemetery, Steele City, Jefferson County, Nebraska.3,7
