Bill's obituary was published in "The Chronicle Herald" (Halifax, Nova Scotia) on October 8, 2008:¹

HANSHAW, William John - 73.  It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Hanshaw, Brickyard Road, Bridgetown, on October 5, 2008.  Born September 18, 1935, he was a son of the late Ralph and Marjorie (McKenzie) Hanshaw.  He was employed with the Department of National Defense for 35 years and started his career in Cornwallis, on to Shearwater, and finally to Greenwood.  He was lifetime resident of Bridgetown and enjoyed many years of retirement at his favourite place, "his home".  He was an avid gardener and his most favourite hobby was lovingly restoring his family home and making anyone who visited most welcome with his consideration and kindness.  He was a great reader and enjoyed a good conversation.  He will be sadly missed by his family, many friends and neighbours.  He is survived by his nieces, Janice (Charles) Beaver, Judy (Basil) Gray, both of Halifax; nephew, Ralph (Helen) Hanshaw, Ontario, and many great-nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth, Murray and George.  Cremation has taken place and a celebration of William's life will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Kaulbach family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with interment in St. James Anglican Cemetery, followed by a reception in the funeral home.  Donations in memory may be sent to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one's choice.  E-mail condolences may be sent to:
