Born Oct 2 1864, Nova Scotia.3,5,6,7  (Oct 2 1863, Bear River, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia).8  

He married Ada B. Jefferson, Feb 11 1888, Hession Line, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.1  Ada, daughter of Harris + Melissa Jefferson, was born Jun 26 1869, Nova Scotia.3,7  (c1873).5

Joseph and family were shown in the 1910 census (May 2 1910), Buena Vista Street, Windsor, Windsor County, Vermont:5

Henshaw, Joseph E., head-of-household, age 46, born in Canada; parents born in Canada; immigrated 1909, alien; first marriage, married 22 years; occupation: laborer, odd jobs; rented home.
Henshaw, Ada J., wife, age 37, born in Canada; parents born in Canada; immigrated 1909; first marriage, married 22 years; 6 children, 4 living.
Henshaw, Walter, son, age 16, born in Canada; parents born in Canada; immigrated 1909; occupation: laborer, general farm.
Henshaw, Llewellen, son, age 6, born in Canada; parents born in Canada; immigrated 1909.
Living in the same dwelling in 1910 (probably in another apartment/unit) was the family of brother Lorenzo Fred Henshaw.9  

Ada died Apr 20 1921, age 50 years, 10 months.10  (Apr 29 1921).11  

Ada's obituary was published in the Digby Courier on May 6, 1921:2,11

Mrs J.E. HENSHAW
A very suden death took place last Friday evening at the home of Mrs George E. TURNBULL, Light House Road, when her mother Ada, wife of Joseph E. HENSHAW died suddenly after an illness of but a few minutes.  Mr. and Mrs HENSHAW and son Llewelyn had only that week returned from Hartford CT where they had been for the past six years, intending to take up a farm in the neighbourhood of Digby.  Mrs HENSHAW was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs Harris JEFFERSON, of Bear River.  She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, two sons, Walter of Hartford CT and Llewelyn, at present in Digby; two daughters, Mrs P.J. BROOKS, of Somerville MA and Mrs George E. TURNBULL of Digby, as well as two sisters, Mrs Arthur STONE of Boston and Mrs William BURNHAM of CA.  The funeral is taking place today.  Interment at Bear River.

He then married Mabel M. Crosby.1  Mabel, daughter of Joshua Crosby & Maria Perry, was born Jan 17 1873.12,13  

In 1929 Joseph was living in Deep Brook, Nova Scotia.14  

Joseph E. Henshaw died Jun 8 1940, Deep Brook, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia; buried United Church of Canada Cemetery, Clementsport, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.8,15  

Mabel died Jul 6 1946, Deep Brook, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia; buried United Church of Canada Cemetery, Clementsport, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.12,13
