Born Apr 6 1798, Orange County, Virginia.^1,4,5 James and brother John were twins.⁴

James apparently owned a very large plantation in Oldham County, Kentucky,⁷ as did brother Philip.^8,9

The account book of Philip T. Henshaw is held at the Winterthur Library, Joseph Downs Collection of Manuscripts and Printed Ephemera, Winterthur, Delaware.¹⁰ The account book records the accounts of Philip Henshaw, James Henshaw, and a Mrs. Sarah Henshaw (relationships unknown but possibly the wife of brother Philip) when they resided in Jefferson County, Kentucky, 1817-1829.¹⁰

James and family were again shown in the 1850 census (Sep 4 1850), Oldham County, Kentucky:⁵
