On Sep 12 1918 Walter Hinshaw, age 34, registered for the World War I draft in Boone County, Missouri. He declared he was born December 16 1885, and was then residing in/near Hartsburg, Boone County, Missouri where he was a self-employed farmer. He declared his nearest relative was Bessie Hinshaw of Hartsburg. He was recorded as short, slender, black eyes, black hair.¹⁶

Walter is buried with Bessie in Bond's Chapel Church cemetery, on Route A, 1.5 miles NE of Hartsburg, Cedar Township, Boone County, Missouri.⁹
