During the Civil War, Fayette Henshaw served in Company C, 4th Virginia Infantry^10,11,12 (Cavalry).⁶ On Jul 24 1861 Fayette Henshaw, born Nov 17 1824, enlisted as a private in Company C, 4th Virginia Cavalry. Noted for Distinguished Service. Surrendered at Gordonsville, Virginia on May 20 1865.⁶ First cousin Thomas Whitfield Early enlisted on Mar 10 1862 and served in the same unit.⁶
