During the Civil War, Fayette Henshaw served in Company C, 4th Virginia Infantry10,11,12 (Cavalry).6  On Jul 24 1861 Fayette Henshaw, born Nov 17 1824, enlisted as a private in Company C, 4th Virginia Cavalry.  Noted for Distinguished Service.  Surrendered at Gordonsville, Virginia on May 20 1865.6  First cousin Thomas Whitfield Early enlisted on Mar 10 1862 and served in the same unit.6
