James was a Lutheran minister.1,2,10  Rev. J.K. Hancher was one of the pastors who helped found numerous Lutheran churches in Northeast Tennessee during the mid to late 1800's.11  

He married Sarah Bushong, Oct 30 1845.1,6,14  Marriage by Lutheran minister Rev. James King.14  Sarah, daughter of George Bushong & Sarah Pyle1,12,14, was born Oct 23 18251,12,14 [Oct 23 182315,16], Tennessee1,12,14.
